Western Senior Specialist Level 1
Prerequisites:
- Maintain a current membership with PSIA-AASI
- Alpine or Snowboard Level 1 Certification
Pathway:
Step 1: Review Seniors Manual and practice applying content and concepts in lessons.
Step 2: Register for and successfully complete the 2-day Western Senior Specialist Level 1 Assessment
*Exceptions to the prerequisites and pathway can only be made through petition.

Regional Resources
This 2-day event is for members of any age who would like to improve their skills working with senior skiers. The event encompasses skiing improvement, video analysis and senior skiing and teaching models for beginning and intermediate senior skiers. Your teaching will be evaluated the afternoon of the second day (there is no skiing exam). Successful candidates will receive a Senior Specialist 1.
*The Seniors Specialist is being piloted by the Western Region and may undergo additional changes before becoming a Specialist Certification offered and acknowledged nationwide.

Seniors Prep
8:30am – Meet your clinician leader at the designated meeting location (a confirmation email noting the location will be emailed to you the day prior)
9:00am – 4:00pm – Plan to be on snow (lunch break will be provided)
Seniors Exam
8:30am – Meet your clinician leader at the designated meeting location (a confirmation email noting the location will be emailed to you the day prior)

- Alpine, Snowboard, Cross Country, Telemark, or Adaptive Level 2 or 3 Certification
- Senior Specialist Level 1

Regional Resources
This two-day event is for members of any age who would like to improve their skills working with all levels of senior skiers. Course includes in-depth study of the technical and tactical elements of contemporary skiing and modern equipment as applied to seniors. We will study how modern technique can optimize strength and balance, and expand enjoyment. We will also cover how to work with seniors in terms of pacing a lesson, group dynamics, and flexibility to student’s physical limitations. You will be evaluated on your teaching and successful candidates will receive a Level 2 Senior Specialist Certificate.
