Adventure Ski and Snowboard School FOR SALE

This is your chance to own a ski and snowboard school!

Make $75-100,000 working 6 months a year teaching skiing & snowboarding near the beach in Encinitas, California.

Since 1977, for over 40 years since I was 23 years old, my SnowSports Simulator business has allowed me to purchase (and in 7 years will pay off) a nearly million dollar home three minutes from Moonlght Beach in Encinitas CA, raise and support a family, ski most of April and then travel the world for 2 to 3 months most summers, invest in real estate and stock markets and accumulate a sizable retirement account, and from October thru March help people from all over the world learn, improve, and get in shape for snow sports that I love.

I’m looking for someone that sees this opportunity to take my business over. You could double the income stated above if you have half the energy and enthusiasm I did in my early years I ran the school. You’re buying a 40+ year established business and a great lifestyle of working for 6 months and traveling or working elsewhere for six months of the year.

At 60 something years old, the time is near for me to pass the torch. I am not in a rush as I still love what I do, but I’d like to do it with/for someone else while I still can to help them learn the ropes.

I will work with and train the new owner to be able to be successful at continuing the legacy I established over 40 years ago and want to see continue for at least the next 40 years…

Price for turnkey established business is $400k. Serious inquiries only please. For the qualified right person I might be willing to accept a sizable down payment and carry the balance of the loan with terms TBD.

Tahoe Donner Announces New Mountain Enhancements for Winter 2018/19

Introducing the new Snowbird triple chairlift, enhanced beginner experience, and an expanded grooming fleet at Tahoe Donner’s Downhill Ski Resort and Cross Country Ski Center.

Discounted ski season passes with special perks are on sale now for a limited time.

Truckee, Calif. (Sept. 6, 2018) –  As the summer comes to a close, Tahoe Donner is preparing for the upcoming winter season with its Cross Country Ski Center ready to open as soon as snow conditions allow, and a scheduled opening date of December 7 at Tahoe Donner Downhill Ski Resort, conditions permitting. Voted 2018’s “Best Family Fun Place” and “Best Nordic/XC Center” in North Lake Tahoe and Truckee by readers of the Sierra Sun, Tahoe Donner is pleased to announce the following on-mountain enhancements at its Downhill Ski Resort and Cross Country Ski Center for the 2018/19 winter season.

DOWNHILL SKI RESORT

New Snowbird Triple Chairlift

The new Snowbird Chairlift is on schedule to debut opening day, conditions permitting. The fixed-grip triple chair replaces the original double chair installed in 1971. The new Snowbird Chairlift will provide improved access to beginner terrain, modern and reliable chairlift technology and an overall enhanced experience for skiers and riders. Its new location to the east edge of Snowbird Run will make more beginner skier terrain available and expand the size of the Learning Center area.

Learning Center and Ski School

The Downhill Ski Resort continues its focus on the beginner experience. Its Caterpillar Conveyor (C2) was relocated near the Ski School Yurt, providing better terrain for beginners to learn how to turn and stop before advancing to the Snowbird Lift. New this year, beginner Snowflakes classes will be split into two age groups: ages 3-4 and 5-6. Classes for ages 3-4 will be shortened to 1 hour and 15 minutes long offered four times daily to help students better focus on learning and improve their overall experience.

Commitment to Grooming

A new PistenBully 400 ParkPro grooming machine was purchased this summer equipped with Tier 4 engine technology that provides lower emissions and better fuel efficiency. The 400 ParkPro’s power and agility will increase the grooming consistency and quality throughout the resort, including its terrain park and park features.

CROSS COUNTRY SKI CENTER

Expanded Grooming Fleet

Tahoe Donner Cross Country Ski Center is committed to providing the best XC ski conditions in Tahoe, and a new PistenBully 100 snowcat further enhances its grooming abilities. The smaller and lighter grooming machine offers the most powerful engine in its class with Tier 4 technology and a diesel particle filter that significantly reduces pollutant emissions by as much as 90%. Its power and agility, combined with a new compaction roller and rubber tracks, will allow for more precise grooming in challenging conditions, as well as help open trails more efficiently after snow storms. This investment will help provide Nordic skiers with pristine trail conditions throughout the winter season.

New Demo and Rental Equipment

The Cross Country Ski Center continues to offer the latest in top performance ski equipment. Classic and skate skiers of all abilities can demo and compare top-of-the-line skis, boots and accessories by Fischer, Salomon and Leki.

Improved Wayfinding Signage

Cross country skiers, fat bikers and snowshoers this winter will notice new wayfinding signage throughout the ski center’s 100+ kilometers of skiable trails. Scheduled to start this fall, the project includes improving directional signs and updating certain trail names to better assist skiing passholders and visitors in exploring the ski center’s vast and diverse trail system.

Season Letter from the Western P&A Chair

As the Publicity and Advisory Chair for the Western Division’s Board of Directors I wanted to reach out to our Member Schools and Directors from around the West about our Locker Room Parties.

Representatives from PSIA-AASI Western Division would love the opportunity to attend some of your hiring events, planned staff functions, or have an event for staff from your resort with the mission of getting the word out about membership, benefits, educational events and the certification process.

Our goal is to have more locker room parties to give our membership direct access at or near their resort to information about education and certification from a representative of the organization, on the spot sign up for events, access to educational materials and an opportunity to meet fellow instructors.

We are working to get the locker room parties on a schedule early to have staff available to reach as many of our members and member schools as possible.

If you need more information about the Locker Room Parties or want to get your ski and ride school on the schedule to host one of these events, please email me at beyondsnow16@gmail.cominfo@psia-w.org or give the office a call (530) 587-7642.

Thank you,

Lea Logal

PSIA/AASI General Managers Survey 2017

We conducted a survey to help us grow and move in the right direction and this is a summary of the feedback we received from you and other Snowsport School management teams.

Biggest Challenge for Snowsports schools are:

Attracting and retaining guests, young staff, quality instructors, and finding experienced instructors willing to instruct beginners.

Biggest Opportunities for Snowsport schools in this diverse and rapidly growing market are:

Focus on customer service, instructors have good communication skills, skiing and riding skills are secondary.  Share and learn of ways to drive retention,  more excitement for Children programs,  and offer more than one way of teaching…our guests all learn differently.

Suggestions on how PSIA/AASI can help improve the Snowsports Schools were similar across the Nation:

  • Change the beginner experience together and focus on the importance of the first time guests.
  • Offer more Entry-level teaching technique clinics; IE. ‘the first 5 minutes’, ‘Starting your lesson out right’, ‘How best to invite your guest back’, ‘Using Social Media, Smartphones to invite your guest back’.
  • Make it easier, simplify, focus more on the beginner lesson and have consistency in lessons and recognize the industry trends within the curriculum.
  • Encourage promoting the lifestyle, make the process fun and show the new staff why they want to be PSIA/AASI members to help grow their life skills.
  • Offer something fresh for instructors.
  • Focus more on training the soft skills of the Instructors and focusing on the guest experience.
  • Be less technical, analytical and jargon-focused

-The teaching methods and methodology of PSIA/AASI are dated and overrated.  Traditional teaching methodology and lesson structure is not beginner friendly and the training’s are overly technical.
