Official Board Update: Focused on Stability, Professionalism, and the Future

PSIA-AASI Western Region is moving forward with a continued focus on leadership stability, professional excellence, and serving our member community. At the recent in-person Spring Board Meeting at Mammoth Mountain, newly elected board members were officially seated, and the Board engaged in productive discussions with members who attended as observers.

The Board confirms that established bylaws and governance procedures were followed throughout the recent election cycle. Under the bylaws, directors must be members in good standing at the time election results are finalized and seating occurs.

The organization also continues to navigate legal matters initiated by several members. On April 24, the Sacramento Superior Court denied a temporary restraining order sought against the organization, finding insufficient factual basis to support the requested relief. There are no further updates at this time.

The officer positions for the 2026–27 term are:

  • Sowmya Subramanian, Chair
  • Thomas Powell, Vice Chair
  • Julie Brown, Secretary
  • Sue Spain, Treasurer
  • Neil Bussiere, National Representative

The Board remains committed to supporting staff, instructors, schools, and members across the region while continuing to focus on professional development, member engagement, sustainable growth, and regional innovation.

The Board also remains committed to fair process and established governance procedures. Should any candidate currently undergoing disciplinary proceedings return to member-in-good-standing status through the established process, the Board has established a pathway for seating them for the remainder of their elected term.

As part of continuous improvement, the Board will review learnings from the current election cycle and evaluate opportunities to strengthen future processes and communication. Disciplinary procedures have long been part of organizational governance and, as with all such matters, remain confidential and handled through established processes.

It remains a significant strength of the organization to have active instructors and members serving on the Board who understand the day-to-day realities, opportunities, and challenges facing our schools and instructor community.

The Board remains focused on maintaining a professional, stable, and forward-looking environment as we continue serving the membership together.

Sincerely,

The PSIA-AASI Western Region Board of Directors
